 Curriculum

Standards based - Content standards were designed to encourage the highest achievement of every student, by defining the knowledge, concepts, and skills that students should acquire at each grade level.

Teaching Strategies – Authentic Applications of Academics:

Speaker’s Bureau - More than just sharing what you do for a living, the Alliance for Education's Speakers Bureau helps connect professionals such as yourself with specific schools within one of the three regions of the county. Speakers undergo a short training process that works to align the professional's chosen topic with the academic content being covered in the classroom. In this way, students not only understand the work that you do, but also learn the relevance of the academic content being covered

Field Studies - students and teachers visit the work site and observe/participate in the application of academics.

Problem-Project Based Learning - Problem/Project-based learning (PBL) is a total approach to education that combines rigorous academic content with real world applications. The collaborative process between a teacher and business/labor/community partners helps create an environment in which students must solve real problems encountered in life or on the job. This instructional technique has been shown to promote the acquisition of critical knowledge, problem solving proficiency, self-directed learning strategies, and team participation skills.

Formal Articulation with Post –Secondary Institutions/Training Providers

Formal Articulation in Place
– Articulation is a planned process linking two or more education systems to help students make a smooth transition from the secondary level of occupational or academic training to the two or four year post secondary level without experiencing a delay or duplication of learning.

Articulation is generally considered as a systematic process that will permit students to move from one course, program, or educational level to the next without loss of time or resources. A guiding principle of articulation is that no student should be required to repeat the same course content for which credit was received.
