Family Involvement/Literacy Support
The goal within this system component is to provide family literacy outreach programs and resources through education institutions, businesses, and community/faith-based organizations. Strategies and instructional services/tutoring will provide training to families and community members in literacy skills such as math, reading, writing, technology and workforce preparation. San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools currently offers a Family Involvement program that trains families as advocates of their children’s academic success, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) that provides training in college readiness skills, a Virtual Pre-K program that assists parents and educators to build early literacy skills through web-based activities and a Reading Buddies program that helps to support reading skills in elementary school children.
The key elements of this system component are:
